Psalm 72:1-20

Chapter 72
1 For Solomon. God, give your justice to the king and your righteousness to the king's son. 2 He will judge your people with righteousness and your afflicted ones with justice. 3 May the mountains lift up peace for the people, and the hills in righteousness. 4 He will judge the poor of the people; he will save the sons of the needy, and he will crush the oppressor. 5 They will fear you as long as the sun endures, and before the moon, generation after generation. 6 He will descend like rain upon mown grass, like showers that water the earth. 7 May the righteous flourish in his days, and abundance of the chief officer of peace be until there is no moon. 8 He will rule from the sea to the sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth. 9 Before him wild goats will bow down, and his enemies will lick the dust. 10 Kings of Tarshish and the islands will bring tribute, kings of Sheba and Seba will present gifts. 11 And all kings will prostrate themselves to him; all nations will serve him. 12 For he will save a poor man from a powerful oppressor, a needy and afflicted man who has no helper. 13 He will have mercy on the socially vulnerable and needy, and the vital life forces of the needy he will save. 14 From oppression and from violence he will redeem their life, and their blood will be precious in his eyes. 15 And he lives and gives him gold of Sheba and intercedes for him continually; all the day they bless him. 16 May there be a handful of grain on the earth; on the top of the mountains may it shake like Lebanon its fruit, and they sprout from the city like the herb of the earth. 17 May his name endure forever; as long as the sun endures, may his name; and may all nations be blessed in him—they may call him happy. 18 Blessed be the LORD God, God of Israel, who alone does wondrous works. 19 And blessed be the name of his glory forever, and may his glory fill the whole earth. Amen and amen. 20 The prayers of David son of Jesse are finished.
